DEMING, Wash. — The Nooksack River Casino in Deming is being demolished, 10 years after it closed its doors.
Financial strain caused the casino to close in December 2015. According to a news release from the Nooksack River Indian Tribe in 2022, the tribe had been in a dispute with lenders for years over unpaid debts used to renovate the casino.
The Nooksack Tribal Council posted an announcement about the demolition on Jan. 8
“We appreciate all the love and feedback we have received regarding how important this building and business was to our people and community,” the Facebook post announcing the demolition said.
Future plans for the site have not been released at this time, but the Tribal Council said an announcement will be made at a later date.
The Nooksack Northwood Casino near Lynden remains in operation.
Demolition of the Nooksack River Casino begins. We want to thank all who were involved in getting our tribe recognized, who worked on our gaming compact and who helped make a difference with this business. We honor the memories and look forward to the future for our people.
