Northshore School District teacher arrested for attempted child rape

REDMOND, Wash. — A teacher in the Northshore School District was arrested Tuesday for attempted child rape.

According to Redmond police, 61-year-old John E. Butz from Snohomish was arrested Tuesday during a sting operation targeting people who were exploiting children.

KIRO 7 typically does not name someone unless they have been charged, but Redmond police worry there may be victims out there and want to alert parents.

Detectives who posed online as minors say Butz planned to meet up with children at a hotel in Redmond for illicit purposes.

When he showed up, he was arrested.

Butz is currently in custody at the King County Correctional Facility.

Redmond police are asking anyone who believes their child may have had inappropriate contact with Butz to give them a call.
