AUBURN, Wash. — One man is dead following an officer-involved shooting in Auburn overnight.
According to Auburn police, the shooting began after an officer pulled the man over during a routine traffic stop just before 2 a.m. near the Chevron on A Street Southeast.
Police say the officer approached the window, where the man who was driving the car pulled out a gun and presented it at a woman in the car in a “threatening way”.
Auburn PD says the officer then drew their weapon and fired one shot inside the vehicle, killing the man. The officer was uninjured.
The woman and sole passenger in the car was also unharmed and is cooperating with police.
Auburn, Federal Way, and King County police responded.
According to Auburn PD, the last officer-involved shooting in Auburn was in 2019.
Following protocol, the Valley Independent Investigative Team (VIIT) will now take over the investigation.
