Officials seize unauthorized COVID-19 medication at Port of Seattle

Officials have seized eight shipments of unauthorized COVID-19 medication at the Port of Seattle since the beginning of July, U.S. Customs and Border Control announced Monday.

The shipments contained unauthorized influenza treatments that falsely claimed to treat the novel coronavirus.

“In the midst of the pandemic, it pains me to see companies willing to sell modern day, placebo-effect remedies, just to make some extra money at the expense of the American people. Seattle Area Port Director Clay Thomas said. “CBP works every day to keep American consumers safe from false and misleading medical claims.”

CBP said the pace of these shipments is increasing. The seizures of the medications came from consignment shipments as well as airport passengers.

Over 2,300 pills were taken.
