Oldest polar bear at Point Defiance Zoo undergoes health exam

TACOMA, Wash. — Here’s something you don’t see every day - a 900-pound polar bear kept under anesthesia as veterinary staff take X-rays, trim his nails and clean his teeth.

Blizzard, the senior polar bear at the Point Defiance Zoo, recently underwent a routine health exam, and the staff concluded he’s doing well for his age.
