JEFFERSON COUNTY, Wash. — One person is dead after a single-car crash Friday in Jefferson County.

Authorities were called to the area of Center Road near milepost 4.6 for a collision.

When deputies arrived, they found an alert driver who was later identified as a 27-year-old Chimacum resident, authorities said.

Deputies said a 31-year-old passenger from Port Townsend had suffered significant head trauma and died at the scene.

Witnesses told deputies the driver was speeding and had passed them near Highway 104 and the Center Road interchange, officials said.

Washington State Patrol troopers at the scene determined the driver showed signs of intoxication, deputies said.

The 27-year-old was arrested and booked for investigation of vehicular homicide.

The road was closed for four hours but was reopened.

Authorities are investigating.
