One firefighter hurt as pets rescued from Lake Stevens house fire

A fire in Lake Stevens was quickly controlled by Snohomish Regional Fire & Rescue (SRFR) after a resident discovered smoke in their garage, according to a news release.

The incident occurred around 6:45 PM on Friday evening at the 1900 block of Vernon Road.

The resident, who lives in the upstairs portion of the home, arrived to find smoke in the garage.

After opening the door, they called 911 and attempted to rescue their three cats and one dog.

Upon reaching the upstairs level, they saw flames and followed 911 instructions to evacuate without their pets.

SRFR crews arrived shortly after, initiating an aggressive attack on the fire while simultaneously conducting a search of the home.

Firefighters successfully located and rescued all the pets, bringing them to safety without any injuries.

The fire, which appeared to have originated in the garage, was under control by 7:08 PM.

The Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause.

The garage contained numerous belongings, which challenged firefighters and provided additional fuel for the flames. While no residents or pets were hurt, one SRFR firefighter sustained a rolled ankle and was taken for medical treatment.
