EVERETT, Wash. — One person is dead after a chase in Everett involving Washington State Patrol and Everett Police.

The chase started on the Hewitt Avenue Trestle at around 8 p.m. Sunday, according to Trooper Kelsey Harding.

It ended with a rollover crash at 19th and Rainier, the Everett Fire Department confirmed.

One person was killed and a second person was evaluated by medics at the scene and then released.

The road was closed while police investigated.

Signs of the crash could be seen the next day, with a pole down, skid marks in the grass, and metal debris.

Now neighbors are cleaning up the damage left behind at several homes.

Shawn Murphy has a home close to where the collision occurred.

“It was incredibly loud. I really thought the car was going to come through the front door,” said Murphy.

William Olsen lives a few doors down from Murphy. For him, a quiet Sunday evening at home watching TV turned was upside down when his front yard became a crime scene.

“There were like 40 police cars and like lights everywhere,” said Olsen. “I saw my whole yard wrapped in the ‘police do not enter’ tape, then I saw the car parked - crashed, right here…oh gosh we were lucky God saved us!”

Murphy shared photos with KIRO 7 and says it was extremely lucky that the vehicles only ended up in the front yard,.

“It was pretty scary there for a minute,” he said.

The damage stretched from Murphy’s yard all the way to Olsen’s, spanning the intersection and three homes.

Trooper Harding said what led up to the chase is not clear, and that Everett PD is leading the investigation.
