MERCER ISLAND, Wash. — One person is dead after a driver ran a stop sign on Mercer Island, struck another car and then tried to flee from the crash scene.
The crash happened on West Mercer Way at Southeast 24th Street Friday morning.
Police say a car with two people inside ran a stop sign and then hit the victim’s vehicle. Both cars ended up in bushes on opposite sides of the road.

The person whose vehicle was hit by the suspect was ejected from their car and died at the scene.
Police said one of the people in the suspect's vehicle tried to run, but officers quickly caught that person.
Both people in the suspect's vehicle were arrested.
Police say the people who caused the crash might have taken the car without permission, but did not detail the relationship between the suspects and the car's owner.
