Over $43 million in IRS refunds due to Washingtonians

Tax refunds totaling over $43 million may be waiting for 42,272 Washington taxpayers who did not file a 2018 federal income tax return, according to the Internal Revenue Service.

However, eligible taxpayers must act before the April tax deadline because there’s a three-year window to claim.

If a taxpayer does not file a tax return within three years, refunds become property of the U.S. Treasury.

For 2018 tax returns, the deadline to file is April 18, 2022, for most taxpayers.

Tax returns must be properly addressed, mailed and postmarked by that date.
