BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The Canadian government will soon be sending cancer patients over the border to receive treatment in Bellingham.

It’s part of a new deal between two clinics — PeaceHealth St. Joseph Cancer Center and the North Cascade Cancer Center — to provide treatment options to 50 patients a week.

Health officials in British Columbia say they expect to treat around 4,800 patients over the next two years.

The province will pay the hospitals for the treatment, but it will be a temporary solution as it works to build more cancer centers across the area to meet increased demand.
