‘Pajama-clad bandits’ repeatedly hit Mount Vernon grocery store

MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — Little Mountain Grocery in Mount Vernon has been broken into by a group of teenage girls three times in three months, frustrating police as well as the store’s owners.

In surveillance videos shared by the owners, you can hear the sound of three teenage girls smashing their way into the Little Mountain Grocery.

“I’m so surprised that the girls are doing this now,” said owner Sami Deol.

But these pajama-clad suspects aren’t here for popcorn and sodas.

“They go right there (for the electronic cigarettes) and they grab as much as they can, of course, into their backpacks,” said owner MJ Deol.

All of it to the frustration of the store’s longtime owners.

“They’re not going to stop,” said MJ, with a laugh. “So, that’s the problem. That’s the issue.”

Three times since October this trio of teens has broken into this small grocery store. And Mount Vernon Police have arrested them each time.

But they are still not in custody.

“What’s wrong,” we asked Lieutenant Dave Shackleton.

“That’s a good question,” said Lt. Shackleton. “You want to give people a chance to change their behavior, especially young folks. Hopefully, they recognize the consequences of their actions and are able to change.”

But for now, at least that behavior is costing the Little Mountain Grocery thousands of dollars.  The culprits even posted their dirty deeds online.

So, MJ and Sami Deol posted their video, hoping to get the attention of the teens’ parents.

“So, we do really want their parents or someone to pay for what they have been doing every time,” said MJ. “But the laws definitely, I think, should change. Especially for kids that age.”

The Skagit County Prosecutor says they haven’t filed charges yet because they say they need more information from Mount Vernon Police.

That means these pajama-clad bandits could face charges very soon.
