Patti Jackson named interim Police Chief for Tacoma

Patti Jackson named interim police chief for Tacoma (City of Tacoma Government)

TACOMA, Wash. — The Tacoma Police Department has named an interim Police Chief.

Tacoma City Manager Elizabeth Pauli says Patti Jackson will fill the role, effective February 24, 2025.

“The Tacoma Police Department has significantly lowered violent crime levels and built strong community relationships, especially in the past few years,” said Patti Jackson in a news release. “I look forward to prioritizing public safety while strengthening established relationships and fostering new ones. I also look forward to building trust amongst the Tacoma Police Department’s employees, both sworn and civilian. In order to move this department and city forward safely, I will need their support and guidance.”

Jackson has over 30 years of experience in law enforcement.

She currently is the Basic Law Enforcement Academy Corrections Commander at the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission and was a former candidate for Pierce County Sheriff.

Jackson has spent her career working to strengthen the trust between law enforcement and the community. She has also learned how to negotiate union contracts, prepare budgets, and has worked to mentor colleagues into leadership roles.

Jackson will lead the department until the City Manager identifies – and the City Council confirms – a permanent Police Chief.

The recruitment process will begin next month.

The announcement comes after former Tacoma Police Chief Avery Moore resigned. He started with the department in 2022 and said that after 35 years of working in law enforcement, he decided to retire.
