SEATTLE — Seattle police are investigating after a 51-year-old man in a wheelchair was hit and killed by a van Thursday night in Seattle.
Investigators said after 9 p.m., a witness reported seeing the man enter the crosswalk on Rainier Avenue South at Martin Luther King Jr. Way South when there was a red “Don’t Walk” pedestrian signal.
The van hit the man in the wheelchair, police said.
The victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center, where he later died of his injuries.
The driver, a 61-year-old man, stayed at the scene. Officers evaluated the man and he showed no signs of impairment.
This remains as an active investigation.
