Renton, WA — As another round of snow and wintry weather hit the Puget Sound, many throughout Western Washington are bundling up and bracing for the cold weather.

KIRO 7 crews spent Monday evening in South King County and noticed occasional heavy flurries in Kent and Renton.

Renton resident Jalen says that while he does enjoy the sight of snow during this time of year, it also reminds him of just how treacherous the roads can be once it gets below freezing.

“I’m doing Door Dash and Uber Eats and so if I go to a neighborhood and it hasn’t been plowed or anything or like that, it might be a little snowy and a little slippery,” Jalen said.

DOT crews throughout the Sound have been busy the past few days de-icing and pretreating roadways to make them safe and drivable; however, those crews aren’t the only ones busy. Tow truck drivers have been first responders to some crashes caused by the wintry weather.

KIRO 7 ran into Tony Vargas of Vargas Towing down in Covington. Vargas says that while he hasn’t responded to any snow-related crashes recently, he agrees this is a busy time of year for many towing companies. He also tells KIRO 7 that whenever they do respond to an accident, it can be dangerous for them, too.

“Because guys are whizzing by and you are just like, ‘Ok whatever!’” Vargas said.

He says if drivers do brace the elements when it is icy or slushy on the roads, they need to pay attention.

“Well, basically everybody needs to slow down and move over. Especially when you see any lights. Yellow. Red. It doesn’t matter. Move over!” Vargas said.
