Pierce County confirms first case of highly-contagious COVID-19 variant

PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. — The Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department confirmed its first case of the highly-contagious COVID-19 variant, just a day after two cases were announced in Snohomish County.

“This new information does not change how we fight COVID-19,” said Health Director Dr. Anthony L-T Chen on Sunday. “Everyone needs to continue to do their part to minimize the spread—and get vaccinated when it is your turn—so we can put this pandemic behind us.”

The health department said they already completed the case and contact investigation, and the person had mild symptoms and completed the isolation period.
