A pilot was killed Thursday afternoon after a small plane crash near Ellensburg, deputies said.
Before 5 p.m., a farm owner in Kittitas County reported that a small plane had crashed into one of his fields, two miles south of Ellensburg.
When crews arrived, the only occupant on the plane had died.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the pilot's family, friends and the aviation community for their loss," said Kittitas County Undersheriff Clay Myers.
Investigators said a few minutes before the crash was reported, the pilot appropriately communicated his take-off and direction from Bowers Field in Ellensburg.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
