UPDATE: At about 9:30 a.m. Monday, both men were found safe in the Lake Cavanaugh area. According to the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office, their plane crashed into some trees Sunday night and the two men were able to climb down to safety. The two men had a handheld radio and contacted searchers Monday, after walking nearly one mile along a creek bed to a clearing in the woods.
KIRO 7 News spoke with Kyle Allyn, one of the men on the plane. The two men are brothers, 78 and 79-years-old. He thanked the Snohomish County Search and Rescue team that found them on a logging road Monday morning. Allyn said they weren’t injured in anyway and were back home with their families in a “matter of a couple hours.”
Allyn said they weren’t going particularly fast when they went into the trees, which accounts for the lack of damage to the plane. Allyn said the reason for the crash was a case of “small plane, big mountain,” and it was too late to turn around. Allyn said he learned his lesson.

PREVIOUS: A small plane with two men aboard was reported missing Sunday night by the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office.
At about 7:50 p.m. on Sept. 25, the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office was contacted about a plane bound for Arlington from Concrete that did not arrive in Arlington.
The Cessna airplane with two men aboard was confirmed to have left Concrete airport at 2:12 p.m. Sunday.
The Department of Transportation sent a plane to search for the missing aircraft and found a faint tone of the emergency locating tracker near Lyman, but the tone did not have enough clarity to perform a ground search.
A second ping from the aircraft was located off Grandstrom Road near Lake Cavanaugh.
A search for the missing plane and the two men aboard was scheduled to begin Monday.
