EDMONDS, Wash. — Police said Wednesday they are investigating a report of a 5-year-old girl being inappropriately touched on July 9 by a stranger in a public restroom at an Edmonds park.
Edmonds police said the child told her mother that while she was in the restroom, she was touched by a “man wearing women’s clothing.”
Police said the girl's father reported the person of interest was either male or female with masculine features and 19 to 25 years old, with long black hair and light-colored skin.
Significantly, the father told police the person of interest and his daughter were not in the restroom at the same time together at any point.
The person of interest was wearing a purple butterfly shirt and shorts, Edmonds police said.
The reported incident happened at the Edmonds City Park at 600 3rd Avenue South. The young girl was with her father and siblings when she went into the women’s restroom and then a bathroom stall, where the child said a stranger touched her privates.
Police said the girl did not immediately tell her father about what happened and reported it to her mother later.
Edmonds police said there are several details being investigated in an effort to corroborate and substantiate the girl’s report.
“In the interest of public safety and in an abundance of caution, the Edmonds Police Department would like to alert the general public about this incident and ask for the public’s assistance in locating and/or identifying the person of interest so that they may be interviewed,” Edmonds police said in a release. “If anyone has any knowledge of the incident or recalls seeing someone matching the description on that date, they are asked to contact the Edmonds Police Department tip line at 427 771-0212.”
