HOQUIAM, Wash. — Hoquiam police said a young man driving a Dodge Challenger damaged multiple cars after he gunned the gas and lost control.
Hoquiam officers were called to a crash in the 2400 block of Simpson Avenue Wednesday morning.
Police said a 2017 Challenger driven by a 19-year-old Hoquiam man was in the left lane on Simpson when after passing a public works truck and crew working in the right lane.
Investigators said once the driver was past the blocked lane, he accelerated rapidly and tried to move into the right lane.
The maneuver caused the Challenger to fishtail. The driver then over-corrected and the car slammed into a fence and several parked cars at a car lot, according to police.
Officers said six cars in the fenced lot were not only damaged by the impact of the Challenger but also by the fence scraping across the vehicles as it was knocked down during the crash.
One of the cars hit in the lot was catapulted backward into another car parked near the office.
Authorities said the crash caused several thousand dollars' worth of damage.
The suspect's Challenger was also extensively damaged.
No one was hurt in the crash. Police said the driver was cited for second-degree negligent driving and the Challenger was towed from the scene.
