LAKEWOOD, Wash. — The investigation continues after a Pierce Transit employee was hit and killed by a bus at the headquarters in Lakewood Tuesday night.
The incident happened after 6:30 p.m.
“Our understanding is that the bus was leaving the bus wash, and was covered in water,” said Pierce Transit spokeswoman Alexandra Fastle. “The employee was on the inside curve of the bus, and was not visible, and unfortunately there was an incident.”
Fastle said there are procedures for where to stand and what to do around the bus wash. However, she is not sure what went wrong .
West Pierce fire tried to use a forklift to save the worker, but there was nothing that could be done.
“This has never happened before,” Fastle said.
Police and Labor & Industries investigators are handling the incident.
