SEATTLE — Seattle police are searching for the person who shot a man several times and left him to die in a busy part of Capitol Hill.
Officers responded to a report of a man who had been shot near Broadway and East Howell Street near Cal Anderson Park after 8 p.m.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man who had been shot three times. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center, where he was stable Monday night.
Security guards at Seattle Central College told police they saw a man who matched the description of the shooter in a classroom. Officers ran up and down the street with guns, surrounded the campus and scoured the area for more than an hour while students sheltered inside, but did not find anyone matching the suspect's description.
"I guess they were thinking the guy who shot the person actually went into the school, and so they came in there with like the SWAT team, with guns drawn and were asking, 'Hey, have you seen the guy with a green beard,'" said student Saadiq Kamali.
Witness Terrell Campbell shot video of the victim with his cellphone as the chaos unfolded.
"They pushed us back a little bit ... ambulance came and they started running out with the stretcher and turned the dude over, patched his back up," said Campbell.
