Police: Man shoots, kills father in domestic violence incident in Maple Valley

MAPLE VALLEY, Wash. — A 41-year-old man shot and killed his father in a domestic violence situation Tuesday afternoon in unincorporated Maple Valley, police said.

King County Sheriff's Office officials were called to the 20000 block of Southeast 240th Street around 2 p.m. after receiving a call for a welfare check on the 41-year-old who lived with his 71-year-old father.

A mental health professional was concerned about threats the 41-year-old man was allegedly making, officials said.

When deputies arrived, they met with the man's father outside while his son, who was inside, didn't respond to a loudspeaker or phone calls, officials said.

Officials said deputies at the scene had advised the father not to go back into the house for his own safety, but he did. Moments later, deputies heard multiple gunshots.

The 41-year-old man came out of the house and surrendered to deputies, officials said.

Officials said deputies went into the house and found the father had been shot and began CPR.

When medics arrived, they continued to perform lifesaving measures, but the man died just before reaching the hospital, officials said.

The 41-year-old was booked into the King County Jail for investigation of murder.
