1 killed, 1 injured in head-on collision involving Metro bus in Bellevue

BELLEVUE, Wash. — One person was killed and another was injured in a serious two-car collision involving a King County Metro bus on Monday morning, according to the Bellevue Police Department.

The crash occurred near the intersection of 156th Avenue Northeast and Northup Way at about 8 a.m.

Police say their initial investigation determined that a bus and a car struck head-on while the bus was turning left onto northbound 156th Avenue Northeast.

The 81-year-old passenger in the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car was transported to Overlake Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

There were reportedly no injuries to the bus driver or passengers on the bus, according to Bellevue police.

The roadway was closed for over three hours while collision investigators responded to the scene.

Drivers in the area were advised to find alternate routes while police conducted their initial investigation.

Police say they are still investigating, but at this time, there appear to be no signs of impairment and speed was not a contributing factor in the collision.
