TACOMA, Wash. — Tacoma police are investigating an attempted armed robbery at Point Defiance Park that sent a 55-year-old woman to the hospital with a grazed, gunshot wound to her head.
On Tuesday at 5:37 p.m., the woman was walking to her car near the park’s rose garden when a masked, armed robber tried stealing her purse, according to Tacoma Police Department Public Information Officer Wendy Haddow.
The woman “struggled” over her purse, then a gunshot was fired that grazed the woman’s head.
The armed robber ran off into a potentially-occupied vehicle. For now, there is only one suspect in this attempted armed robbery, but there could be more, according to Haddow.
As of Wednesday morning, no arrests had been made and no suspect information was provided.
The attempted robbery came five hours after an armed robbery at Wright Park.
On Tuesday around noon, three masked juveniles armed with handguns robbed two people at Wright Park. The victims, also juveniles, had their shoes and cell phones taken during the armed robbery, according to Haddow.
“There is nothing at this time to indicate (the two crimes) are connected. However, detectives pursue all avenues of investigation,” Haddow said.
