SEATTLE — A man was shot and killed in the parking lot at a youth track meet in West Seattle Tuesday evening. Police are still looking for the shooter.
The victim, who is in his 40s, was gunned down in the parking lot of the West Seattle Stadium in the 4400 block of 35th Avenue Southwest just before 7:30 p.m., according to Seattle police detectives.
He was rushed to Harborview Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Homicide detectives are now trying to figure out what led up to the shooting.
Neighbors told KIRO 7 the stadium hosts a track/running event for elementary school children on Tuesdays.
KIRO 7 found the following Facebook post from the Rainier Beach Track Club that said the victim was a father of one of the participants.
The gunfire sent children and parents scrambling to get away. Witnesses sent KIRO 7 cellphone video showing people hiding in the dugout area of the stadium. Several people are seen running away from the parking lot.

Jeff Deymonaz heard gunshots from across the street.
"Then it actually clicked in my mind, oh those are real gunshots. Those are not actually track gunshots. This is a little kid's track meet, why would there be gunshots going on?" he said.
Descriptions of the suspect are conflicting, according to Seattle police.
Investigators with the homicide unit combed through the wooded area by the stadium for hours. They're interviewing several others who were "hanging out" in the parking lot when the shooting occurred.
