Police: Man wanted for questioning in Spanaway stabbing

PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. — The Pierce County Sheriff's Office is asking for help in identifying a man suspected of stabbing another man while he was sleeping in the grass in Spanaway.

Deputies said the stabbing happened Wednesday afternoon along 204th Street East and Mountain Highway.

Witnesses reported to deputies that a couple of men were sleeping in the grass behind a Jack in the Box when the suspect drove past and "stared them down," deputies said.

Officials said minutes later, the suspect returned on foot and stabbed one of the men several times in what was reported as an unprovoked attack.

The suspect reportedly ran through the nearby Walmart parking lot and then around the building and got into a white Ford Explorer. The vehicle took off going northbound on Mountain Highway.

Officials said the victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect is described as a black man in his late teens or early 20s. He is reportedly about 5 feet, 7 inches tall with a slender build. He was also wearing a black hoodie and jean shorts.
