SEATTLE — A teenage girl was killed in the passenger seat of a car in a Rainier Valley shooting Wednesday which also left a man injured.

Seattle police don't believe either was a direct target of the shooter, who is still at large.

Seattle Det. Patrick Michaud said the shooting happened in the area of Rainier Avenue South and South College Street shortly after 6 p.m. Michaud said detectives believe the car the girl was riding in was targeted, but they were unsure of the shooter's description, or a motive.

Witnesses told KIRO 7 the shots may have been fired from a moving car into a moving car with the teen inside, which stopped in the parking lot of Remo Borracchini's Bakery on Rainier Avenue South.

A man believed to be a customer inside the bakery was also injured when he was struck in the face by either a bullet fragment or flying glass from a store window, according to a bakery worker who said the man was hit while he was ordering coffee.

Police closed down surrounding streets for several hours while they found what appeared to be 13 bullet casings on the street.

Detectives hope video surveillance from surrounding businesses will give them a clearer idea of what happened and who fired the shots.
