Lynnwood man’s mysterious death under investigation

LYNNWOOD, Wash. — The mysterious death of a Lynnwood man has friends and neighbors seeking answers.

Lynnwood police found a 52-year-old man dead in the parking lot of the apartment complex where he lived. They later determined he had been run over by a car. Now, police are trying to determine who ran over him and why.

Neighbors say the victim’s life seemed to be on a good footing. They say he had difficulty paying his bills in the past but he now had a junk business that seemed to be putting him on a good financial footing.

Then Saturday night his life came to an end in this parking lot and no one who knew him can figure out why.

One neighbor remembers the last time she saw the man who lived upstairs.

“Friday evening, just another day,” she said. “Parked his truck, emptied out his, his cab into the dumpster of all his junk food, and up the stairs he went.”

What she didn’t know is that in just 24 hours, he would be found dead, just a few hundred feet from her deck.

“The way they found him,” he said. “That’s sad.”

She and others identified him as 52-year-old Geoffrey Smalley.

She says she dreads telling her husband about Smalley’s death. He’s fishing in Alaska and the two men were good friends.

Lynnwood Police are investigating Smalley’s death.

“Further investigation by detectives determined that the victim had been run over by a vehicle,” said Lynnwood PD spokeswoman Maren McKay.

She says detectives need the public’s help solving the mystery of who ran over him and why.

If you know anything about what happened Saturday night, you’re asked to call Lynnwood police or Crimestoppers of Puget Sound.
