SEATTLE — Seattle police officers are looking for a driver who hit and killed a pedestrian and then fled.
Police and medics were called to Fourth Avenue and Columbia Street in downtown Seattle around 12:30 a.m. Thursday after woman was struck by a silver Toyota 4-Runner SUV whose driver left the scene.
Seattle Fire Department medics could not revive the victim and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The intersection was closed to traffic for hours while police investigated.
Detectives said the 4-Runner may have some front-end damage.
Anyone with information about the SUV or hit-and-run is asked to call 911 or contact Seattle police detectives directly at 206-684-8923.
The Seattle Department of Transportation has recently installed Leading Pedestrian Intervals in busy intersections that give pedestrians more time to safely cross the street.
But from examining the intersection Thursday, it does not appear that was in use at Fourth and Columbia.
