SEATTLE — The Seattle Police Department on Wednesday night released bodycam video after officers shot and killed a man Tuesday night along the downtown waterfront.
The shooting happened on Alaskan Way and Seneca Street near Miners Landing.
Watch police bodycam video that reveals how the officer-involved shooting unfolded. Warning: the video is graphic.
According to Seattle police, around 9:20 p.m., Port of Seattle police called Seattle police about a man in crisis who was armed with a kitchen knife.
When officers arrived, the man appeared to have cut himself, then fled along Alaskan Way.
“Police approached the man and attempted to use a less-lethal tool, but the device was ineffective,” police said.
According to investigators, the man moved toward officers, who then fired and fatally struck him. Before he was shot, officers were heard on video ordering the man to stop, but video shows the man running toward officers and yelling, “Do it, do it, please kill me.”
Officers immediately began performing lifesaving measures, but the man died.
The identity of the man has not been released.
Two officers who were involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure as the case is investigated.
People who work on the waterfront were upset by what happened.
This is the second deadly shooting in the past week involving Seattle officers.
On Feb. 9, officers shot and killed a suspect, who they say randomly shot two women in the Central District. One of the two women died.
