PORT ANGELES, Wash. — Members of the Port Angeles Education Association (PAEA) voted this evening to ratify a new contract with the Port Angeles School District, clearing the way for school to start on time Thursday, Sept. 3.
According to the union, 97% of members voted to approve the agreement.
The Port Angeles School Board still needs to approve the contract.
PAEA and the district have been bargaining since March to replace a contract that expires Aug. 31.
“Port Angeles educators’ key issues have been more administrative support for safe classrooms and compensation that keeps teachers in Port Angeles,” PAEA wrote in a press relase.
“Our members were united and we got an agreement that moves us forward,” said PAEA President Karen Doran. “This was a hard bargain and it took all summer, but our team stayed at the table because Port Angeles students deserve it.”
