Port Angeles Fire Department tackles overnight fire

PORT ANGELES, Wash. — Around 12:25 a.m. on June 8, Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue responded to a residential structure fire that was spreading to the primary residence.

Elwha police arrived at 4423 Dry Creek Road and reported a shed and attached carport on fire.

The first arriving fire units requested aid from the the Port Angeles Fire Department.

Fire units began suppressing the fire from the exterior and an entry was made through the front door of the residence to extinguish the fire within the structure.

There were reports of several explosions during the fire and fire units found fireworks and several propane cylinders stored in the shed.

Two fire district water tenders arrived to assist fire units.

The occupant, who rents the home, reported that three adults and five children were in the residence at the time of the fire as well as two adults in an recreational vehicle on the property.

All residents were evacuated with no injuries and are staying with family in the area.

Based on burn patterns and occupant statements, preliminary investigation indicates the fire started in the shed.

Due to extensive damage to the shed and carport, an exact cause is undetermined at this time.
