Port of Everett signs deal for premier waterfront hotel

The Port of Everett signed a deal for a nearly 100,000-square-foot premier hotel on Wednesday morning -- part of a $500 million undertaking.

The hotel deal was approved Tuesday by the port commission, according to Terrie Battuello, chief of business development for the Port of Everett. She said Everett has "a lot of need for housing."

Seattle's Columbia Hospitality plans to bring the 142-room Indigo Hotel to the Everett waterfront as part of the Port of Everett's decade long project.

In addition, construction is already scheduled to start on 660 new housing units.

To accommodate the influx of people, the port is recruiting retail shops and restaurants, such as Bluewater Distilling.

"The marina has really exploded and with all the new development happening we moved our bigger distillery and cocktail bar for that reason," said Bluewater co-owner Amy Vernette.

About 220 of the new units and the hotel are expected to be completed in 2019. The entire waterfront renovation project is scheduled to be finished in 2025.
