Portion of SR 99 in Fife to close while crews remove old bridge

FIFE, Wash. — The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) says State Route 99 in Fife will be reduced to a single lane this week while an old bridge is demolished.

The closure will begin Tuesday at 8 p.m. and end at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, impacting the stretch between 70th Avenue East and the Wapato Way roundabout.

Southbound drivers can get around the construction zone on a recently finished bridge over Hylebos Creek.

Northbound drivers, who are already using a bypass around the construction zone, should begin using the new bridge as early as mid-February, according to WSDOT.

The work is part of the State Route 167 Completion Project which is building a tolled highway between Interstate 5 and the Port of Tacoma. It’s set to open in 2026.
