NORTH BEND, Wash. — The Washington State Patrol confirmed to KIRO 7 that a pregnant woman and her unborn child died following a weather-related crash on eastbound I-90 near North Bend Sunday night.

The woman, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was identified as 27-year-old Alyssa S. Helfenstein of Moses Lake.

State troopers say the husband, 31, and two children, ages 3 and 5, who were also in the car, were transported from the scene to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

WSP says the family's Mitsubishi Galant left the road and struck the guardrail on the left shoulder and then came to rest 20 feet down the embankment.

The crash is considered to be weather-related and is not being investigated as a criminal incident.

The Washington State Patrol says that in a two-hour period more than 20 cars crashed in weather-related incidents along a stretch of I-90 due to a mixture of hail, rain and snow.

KIRO 7 will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.
