Members of the Seattle Urban Farm Company planted and are maintaining the garden at the base of the Batter’s Eye behind the outfield wall.
Growing in the garden is lettuce, Swiss chard, radishes and mixed salad greens. In later months, there are plans to grow sweet and hot peppers, herbs, Roma tomatoes, and cucumbers, according to the Mariners.
In the concessions area, the produce will be incorporated into menus for Hit It Here Café, Edgar’s Cantina and Edgar’s Tacos.

In a statement, Karen Dawson with Cedar Grove said: "This garden brings the Mariners' organics recycling program full circle. Using compost, manufactured by Cedar Grove in part from food scraps collected at Safeco Field, to grow vegetables at the ballpark for fan consumption."
According to the release, nearly 87 percent of the waste generated at Safeco Field was recycled or composted last year.
