Kent police arrested a 27-year-old man for DUI and hit-and-run after he walked away from a crash on 88th Avenue South and South 228th Street earlier this week.

The crash occurred when the suspect, driving a Toyota, attempted a turn southbound from 228th Street and collided with a northbound Chrysler 300.

The 21-year-old female driver of the Chrysler told officers she swerved to avoid the crash but could not prevent the collision.

After the crash, the suspect walked away, leaving behind his driver’s license, which the victim provided to responding officers.

Kent officers quickly arrived at the scene and, with the address from the suspect’s license, they located the man a few blocks away.

The suspect was found attempting to enter his apartment.

He was visibly intoxicated, swaying severely and unable to walk safely without support. Officers escorted him back to the scene, where the victim positively identified him as the driver who ran away.

The suspect was taken to a hospital for a court-ordered blood draw to determine his blood alcohol content. Despite being highly intoxicated, he resisted officers throughout the process, refusing commands and making movements that caused officers to believe he might assault them.

The suspect was booked into jail and is facing charges of DUI and hit-and-run involving an attended vehicle.

Fortunately, the victim driver was not seriously injured in the crash.
