SEATTLE — Renowned NFL journalist and ESPN football analyst John Clayton, who covered the Pittsburgh Steelers, Seattle Seahawks and NFL as a beat reporter for The Pittsburgh Press and The Tacoma News Tribune, has died at the age of 67, according to a tweet from the Seattle Seahawks. He reportedly died at a Seattle-area hospital after a brief illness.
Clayton, nicknamed “The Professor,” was also a host of sports radio shows in Seattle, including Seattle Sports 710 AM for the past 14 years, Seattle Sports 710AM radio said.
The Seahawks reported that Clayton had won the esteemed Dick McCann Award. It is given out yearly by the Professional Football Writers of America (PFWA) “for long and distinguished reporting on professional football.”

Steve Raible, former KIRO 7 anchor and the voice of the Seahawks, tweeted about Clayton’s passing, saying “The consummate pro. Fair. Respected. RIP John. We’ll miss you on Sunday ... and every day. Our prayers are with Pat.”
The Seahawks also sent their condolences to Clayton’s wife Pat and the Clayton family for their loss.
