Aerospace giant Boeing could soon slash 10% of its workforce, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal.
>>Boeing extends suspension of Puget Sound operations until further notice
This comes as the company struggles with the coronavirus pandemic.
The report said the plan to reduce staff around the world could include buyouts, early retirement, and layoffs.
The company has about 160,000 employees globally, and the possible cuts were expected to broadly hit its commercial unit, according to the WSJ report. Because of the tumult in the overall airline industry, that limb is under enormous strain.
KIRO-7 reported last week Boeing is offering benefits packages to employees who accept voluntary layoffs.
There has been no word yet on how many employees could take advantage of the offer.
