SUMNER, Wash. — Despite playing for the rival San Francisco 49ers, former Seahawks star Richard Sherman is still giving back to the Pacific Northwest.
Blanket Coverage, the Richard Sherman Family Foundation, recently donated to the Sumner food bank through the food drive at Sumner High School.
"We appreciate all you do to continue to serve the region," the Sumner High School Twitter account posted Wednesday.
The Blanket Coverage Foundation was formed in 2013 by Sherman "to provide students in low-income communities with school supplies and clothing so they can more adequately achieve their goals."
Sherman was drafted by the Seahawks in the fifth round of the 2011 NFL Draft after starring at Stanford University.
In seven seasons with the Seahawks, Sherman made the Pro Bowl four times, was named First-team All-Pro three times and helped lead the Seahawks to their first Super Bowl title.
Sherman tore his Achilles tendon in November of 2017 against the Arizona Cardinals and was released in the offseason.
Sherman then agreed to a three-year contract with the 49ers but continues to spend his offseasons in the Seattle area.
According to the Blanket Coverage website, Sherman's childhood idol, Magic Johnson, came to Dominguez High School and spoke to him and his fellow classmates on the importance of setting and achieving goals.
"Since that time Richard has made it his focus to preach those same sentiments and help students achieve their fullest potential," the foundation said.
Sherman and the 49ers are currently in first place in the NFC West with a 9-1 record but lost to the Seahawks 27-24 in overtime Nov. 11.
The 49ers will play in Seattle against the Seahawks Dec. 29.
