Sea-Tac Airport proposes building up in latest expansion plan

SEATAC, Wash. — There's a new plan to make part of Sea-Tac Airport taller.

The Port of Seattle says its expanding shops and dining.

Citing a demand from the people who run the shops and concourse near the C Gates, where a majority of Alaska Airlines gates are at, the Port is looking to build up to add more than what's already being expanded.

The Port determined that building up four more floors on top of the current C gate terminal would be the most cost-effective measure.  The proposed expansion would be in addition to more than a half-billion dollars’ worth of expansions being done with the new satellite expansion and the international arrivals facility.

The building itself was designed for more floors, but was scaled back, and recent seismic code changes would need some work.

This proposed building expansion will provide additional airport dining and retail on the concourse level, as well as provide needed office space and premium lounge space.

The Port is asking for $500,000 to fully flesh out this idea.

If the plan moves ahead, work could start in 2021.

Sea-Tac Airport saw nearly 47 million passengers come through last year, and they expect to break records again in 2018.
