Seafair set to return after 3 years, bigger and better

SEATTLE — A long-loved summer celebration in Seattle is returning for the first time in three years.

Seafair will return with all its traditions and a few new additions as organizers vow that 2022 will be bigger and better than ever.

It is full throttle ahead for Seattle’s most famous summer festival.

“It’ll bring our communities together. It is more important than ever before that we come together as a region,” Seafair sponsor Taylor Hoang said.

From jets to airplanes that will perform high-flying acrobatics in the sky, to high-intensity hydro races on Lake Washington — six of Seafair’s epic events will return this summer, including the Torchlight Parade. It will happen on July 30.

“We have dragon dancers, procession drill teams, marching bands, car clubs, floats and even Seafair pirates,” said Seafair President and CEO Eric Corning.

And don’t forget the Hydroplane races that start Aug. 5.

“We’re looking forward to getting back on the water, our team especially,” said hydroplane racer Jeff Berndard.

Soaring above the sky will be the Blue Angels too. Their new super hornet jet will debut.

“They are larger, they are louder [and] they are faster,” Corning said.

Amazon is the title sponsor of Seafair 2022.

Organizers said that everything is planned and set and all that needs to happen is cooperation with Mother Nature.

“As a Northwest Washingtonian, we all know that summer doesn’t start until after the Fourth, so fingers crossed,” Hoang said.

The fun does kick off on the Fourth of July with the big fireworks show.
