RENTON — The Seattle Seahawks introduced their newest employee on Monday, revealing Rye, their latest member of the team’s “Turf crew.”
Rye’s official title is “junior wildlife specialist.” He’s set to spend the bulk of his job patrolling the Seahawks’ Virginia Mason Athletic Center practice facility in Renton.
The team’s previous practice facility dog, Turf, passed away last December at the age of 9 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Over the course of his tenure, Turf was beloved as the Seahawks’ official dog, as well as its “wildlife manager and irrigation specialist.”
On Rye’s official Twitter account, the team said that their hope is that they can “honor Turf’s memory by continuing to have a ‘Turf dog’ at VMAC & keep his spirit alive.”
“Rye has big ‘paws’ to fill but he’s got some amazing support from the 12′s and Seahawks,” they continued.
Official passing of the baton.
