Paul Allen, the Microsoft co-founder and owner of the Seattle Seahawks and Portland Trailblazers, announced Monday that he's fighting cancer.

"Recently, I learned the non-Hodgkin's lymphoma I battled in 2009 has returned," Allen wrote on Twitter. "I've begun treatment & my doctors are optimistic that I will see a good result. Appreciate the support I've received & count on it as I fight this challenge."

Non-Hodgkin lymphoma is a cancer that starts in white blood cells called lymphocytes, which are part of the body's immune system, and lymphomas can start anywhere in the body where lymph tissue is found, according to the American Cancer Society. See additional details here.

Last month, Allen announced a $30 million spending plan to house 94 homeless and low-income families in South Seattle. Follow this link for additional details. Allen is also a co-owner of the Seattle Sounders FC.
