Search for missing swimmer in Lake Sammamish turns into recovery mission

A search for a missing 72-year-old man who went swimming in Lake Sammamish turned into a recovery mission.

Eastside Fire & Rescue crews were called at 6:07 p.m. to the 2900 block of East Lake Sammamish Parkway Northeast.

Rescue divers and swimmers searched for the victim but did not find him until 7:50 p.m.

A friend of the man told rescuers that his friend went under while the two of them were swimming. The two had been swim buddies for years.

That friend called 911. At some point, he swam home and hopped in a kayak to try and find his friend. However, he was unsuccessful.

The investigation is ongoing.
