CHELAN COUNTY, Wash. — Investigators served a search warrant at a home where a wildfire may have started in Chelan County.
Officials say the Red Apple Fire may have been started by an illegal burn.
The wildfire has burned 11,000 acres since it was reported just before 7 p.m. on Monday. It’s burning north of Highway 2 between Cashmere and Wenatchee.
As of Saturday morning, the fire was about 50% contained.
Around 1,500 homes remain under some kind of evacuation order there. That includes Level 3, or “get out now,” orders.
So far, no homes have been destroyed.
Chelan County is under a state of emergency while crews continue to fight the fire.
Firefighters are making progress, with about 200 people fighting the flames and aircraft dropping water and fire retardant.
