SEATTLE — The Seattle Aquarium has acquired a new harbor seal that was born at Seaside Aquarium in Oregon in May 2014.

Casey is a male who was moved to the Seattle Aquarium to be a companion for the aquarium’s two other harbor seals, Barney and Hogan.

Harbor seals are often seen in the Puget Sound region.

“Unlike sea otters and river otters, harbor seals don’t rely on fur to stay warm. Instead, their thick layer of blubber provides insulation while storing energy, adding buoyancy in the water and contributing to their streamlined shape,” the aquarium said in a news release.

Harbor seals eat sole, flounder, sculpin, cod, herring, octopus and squid.

Visitors to the aquarium can see Casey in person along with local and tropical fish, shorebirds, jellies, tide pool animals and more.
