With some many people working from home, more are seeking companionship during these tough times.
Seattle Humane is using rolling out a new adoption-by-appointment system to connect animals with their forever families.
“What we are trying to do is flatten the curve as much as possible and be a good community partner,” said Brandon Macz with Seattle Humane.
The Bellevue shelter is closed to the public. It’s also moving all animals out of the shelter and into foster homes.

The shelter then piloted a new adoption-by-appointment system for some Oklahoma puppies.
“Since then we've been revising that pilot to match the current public health guidelines coming down which is rapidly changing with COVID-19 as it spreads and new cases come up,” Macz explained.
Now the new system is ready for the public. All you have to do is get online and look through all the pet profiles. If there’s one you’re interested in, you fill out and submit a pre-adoption questionnaire. Then someone from Seattle Humane will give you a call and discuss whether you may be a good match. After that, you have the option to make an appointment to meet the animal in person.
“The final process we're still working on because we want to maintain as good a safety protocol as we could possibly do in connecting adopters with the animals while also protecting our staff and keeping safe social distancing,” Macz added.
Like so many other organizations adapting during this coronavirus crisis, Seattle Humane has had to change how it does its job, but it doesn't change its mission of finding these pets a forever home.
