SEATTLE — A Seattle man was charged in King County Superior Court with first-degree voyeurism for allegedly recording a video of a woman using a restroom on the University of Washington campus.
The incident happened Aug. 27 inside the Husky Union Building (HUB), according to a probable cause document.
In charging documents, prosecutors said Malachi Eliakim Izen, 21, used his phone to record the video and did so while on conditional release on two pending Seattle Municipal Court cases.
According to police, the victim reported seeing a smartphone poking underneath the wall of an adjoining stall and "noticed herself on the main screen as if she were being recorded."
Police said they identified a suspect through surveillance video of a lounge area outside the bathroom.
When the victim viewed the surveillance video, police said she told them, "I believe the person in the video footage is the same person I encountered in the bathroom."
Around 10:45 p.m. on Aug. 28, police said they noticed Izen, who matched the suspect's description and was wearing the same shoes as in the surveillance video, walking near University Way.
Officers said Izen was then detained for investigative purposes and they showed him the surveillance video from inside the HUB the previous day.

Police said Izen admitted to being in the women's restroom and said he ran away when he heard someone yell expletives "in a girly voice," but did not admit to recording video.
Izen was then transported to the UW police station where he provided a suspect statement, according to a probable cause document.
Police said Izen returned to the UW police station Aug. 29 and asked to give a follow-up statement to officers.
According to a probable cause document, Izen told police he was taking selfies and messaging his girlfriend while using the bathroom and admitted his phone was held "pretty low."
Izen was then placed under arrest on suspicion of voyeurism and was booked into jail where he remains in lieu of $10,000 bail.
Prosecutors said Izen's pending Seattle Municipal Court cases include a charge of indecent exposure and third-degree theft.
Izen's criminal history includes convictions for theft and assault, according to charging documents.
